The Rosh Yeshiva opens with a question about why Parashas Vayechi at one moment refers to Ya’akov (Jacob) and then a moment later refers to him as Yisrael (Israel), and how it is that Yisrael knew his remaining time in this world was short. He explains this spiritual awareness of tzadikim (righteous people), who know 30 days before they will pass from the world, when they perceive a three-faceted thing called Tzelem (TZ-L-M) is removed from them, and this based on the completion on their tikkun (work of repairing the world)—all of us being a spark of Adam HaRishon (the first man), here to repair a certain part of his spiritual body. The Rosh Yeshiva concludes with the fact that, ultimately, we are all here to properly identify and perform the tikkun for which we were sent to this world, and how to do so.
