The Teshuvah, Tikkun, and Sechus of the Mothers of the Jewish People in Egypt

January 17th, 2024 / 17th of Teiveis, 5784

The Rosh Yeshiva adds to the his mussar shiur from earlier in the week about the teshuvah (repentance), tikkun (rectification), and Sechus (Merit) of the mothers of the Jewish people in Mitzrayim (Egypt), rooted in their great emunah (faith) and bitachon (trust) in HaShem and His promise.

For nearly 60 years, Diaspora Yeshiva has been uplifting Jewish men seeking to return to their Jewish heritage in accordance with the teachings of the Sages of Israel. We believe in and cultivate the potential of every student not only to return to HaShem and His Ways but to even become Torah Scholars and leaders of the Jewish people. Central to this is learning mussar (Jewish ethics).

As a long-time student of “Yeshivas Chofetz Chaim” under Rabbi Henoch Leibowitz, Rabbi Mordechai Goldstein, ztz”l, who founded Diaspora Yeshiva, established the Yeshiva according to the derech (way) of Chofetz Chaim, following in the footsteps of the Alter of Slabodka and Rabbi Yisroel Salanter, the founder of the Mussar Movement, according to which the Diaspora Yeshiva continues to operate to this day, providing regular mussar lectures in addition to individual study of mussar texts.

As Rabbi Henoch Leibowitz would continually remind his students, it is even more important to become a mentch (“a good person”) than it is to become a lamden (analytical scholar) and a great pedagogue.
