Play Video about The Sugiya (Subject) of Desiring the Existence of a Prohibited Thing for Another Matter – Maseches Avodah Zarah – Talmud B'Iyun (In-Depth) – HaRav Yitzchak Goldstein, Shlit"a

HaRav Yitzchak Goldstein, Shlit”a, Rosh Yeshiva of Diaspora Yeshiva Toras Yisrael and Chief Rabbi of Mount Zion, Jerusalem discusses the subject of the prohibition ‘Desiring the Existence of a Prohibited Thing for Another Matter’ discussed in a variety of places in Maseches Avodah Zarah (Talmud), and the case mentioned on page 32a in particular.

Talmud B’Iyun (learning Talmud in-depth) according to sugiya is how Torah scholars come to a deep understanding of the subject and related halachah, i.e., how we live out the Torah of HaShem.

For nearly 60 years, Diaspora Yeshiva has been uplifting Jewish men seeking to return to their Jewish heritage in accordance with the teachings of the Sages of Israel, believing in and cultivating the potential of every student not only to return to HaShem and His Ways but to even become Torah Scholars and leaders of the Jewish people.

This weekly shiur klali by the Rosh Yeshiva every Yom Chamishi (Thursday) concludes our learning on the part of the sugiya we are learning throughout the week.

For more thorough learning on the subject and better retention, come and work on the sugiya with us throughout the week. We have different classes for different levels of learning—beginner, intermediate, and advanced, currently in English, Hebrew, and Spanish. You may also contact us about tuning in remotely via Zoom and for the related handouts.
